What prompted you to write this particular book – what was the inspiration behind it?
It came about when my sister-in-law said she had been out with "Nanny" (her mother) and she had been very naughty and would not do as she was told. However, I did not write "Naughty Nanny" immediately. I had a young family and did not have the time or energy! So "Naughty Nanny" happened because of a simple humorous comment my sister-in-law Debbie made.
Do you write in a special place or have a special system for writing – a particular time of day, method, longhand/computer, etc?
I wrote the book over a few months in the evenings when my children were in bed. Initially i wrote it in long hand. Thereafter typing it on the computer at work (in lunch break!)
What did you find most difficult about writing this particular book?
I think it would have to be linking all the naughty behaviour to make a story. Again, I have some more ideas for Naughty Nanny, but it will be making it into a story that will be the tricky part.
How does this book differ from other, previous writings?
Naughty Nanny is the first book I have written.
Of what facet of the book are you most proud ?
I am very proud of the character "Naughty Nanny" - I think she's great! She is a fun person, despite her age, and I think she will appeal to children.
If you began to write this book again would you do anything different?
Perhaps I would not have done anything differently about writing the book, but I would try not to be too despondent, although of course at the time it is hard not to be. You think it is never going to happen!
Do you have any advice to pass on to aspiring authors?
You never know what can happen until you try - have a go!
Are you currently working on any other books?
I will be picking up my pen again soon to write a further Naughty Nanny story! I have a number of ideas to explore further!
When writing Naughty Nanny I imagined my grandparents' house in Clophill, Bedfordshire, to be Naughty Nanny's house. This certainly helped to visualise the story and it was enjoyable going down "memory lane"!
