Naughty Nanny had been out shopping at the supermarket with Granddad. They had loaded up the car with all the bags of shopping, Granddad had taken the trolley back to the trolley park and as he was returning to the car he noticed Naughty Nanny was just standing beside it.
Granddad went up to Naughty Nanny and said, “Naughty Nanny, why haven’t you got into the car? It’s unlocked.”
Naughty Nanny looked up at the sky, watched the birds and pretended she could not hear Granddad.
“Naughty Nanny, did you hear me?” asked Granddad.
Again there was no response.
“Naughty Nanny!” Granddad had now raised his voice, “Will you get in the car?”
Naughty Nanny stamped her foot, “Shan’t!” she said.
Granddad asked Naughty Nanny a second time.
“Won’t!” replied Naughty Nanny and then she started jumping up and down and really being very silly indeed.
Granddad by this time had had quite enough and with a sigh he got in the car and drove off. By now Naughty Nanny had stopped jumping, she was smiling … and then she realised she would have to walk home! With a huff and a puff Naughty Nanny set off.
Max and Meredith were sitting on the wall outside Naughty Nanny and Granddad’s house waiting for their grandparents when Granddad pulled up in the car. Max and Meredith smiled and waved when they saw Granddad, but they both frowned when they saw Naughty Nanny wasn’t with him.
“Where’s Naughty Nanny?” they asked together.
Granddad explained what had happened and that Naughty Nanny wouldn’t be home for quite a while yet as she had to walk. “Oh dear,” said Meredith. They all knew what Naughty Nanny was like.
So, whilst they waited for their grandmother to return, Max and Meredith ate the sandwiches that Granddad had made for them, they were all sitting outside at the garden table because it was a lovely sunny day.
